"Ah... I see, you're a Herpetophobic."
"Are you kidding? I'm a slash writer, remember? The best day of my life was when I found out Daniel and I had the same virtues as Touma and Seiji!"
"Not 'homophobic', Herpetophobic - you're afraid of reptiles, like turtles."

Interview with the Writer About Zack
Why Zack? There's been fifteen years worth of Power Rangers history to draw on, so why did I choose Zack?
It actually has nothing to do with Tommy in DinoThunder, contrary to what some may think. (And I had come up with Zack being the boss at Highway 2 before "Mystic Farce" ever aired, so don't even think about going there.) Rather, it was simply that Zack fit most of the criteria;
1. He had been left alone after the character left the original Power Rangers, which meant that the last ten years of his life were a blank slate to work with without having to work around anything tossed in by team-up episodes since he was before their time.
2. He's a former Ranger. While I didn't want to pull a Tommy and have them back in the suit within the first few episodes, I knew that I needed a former Ranger for the Literati Rangers' boss - someone who could figure out their identies on their own and accept, condone, and most importantly understand why they kept cutting out on work.
3. He's easy-going, fun-loving, and always willing to fight for what he believes in - making him someone who the Literati are willing to respect and listen to. Even when they're giving him a hard time it's just because they see him as one of them.
In the beginning, Zack - or Z for short as he's referred to at the time (or Mr. Z. if you're J.T. who nicknames everyone) - is not all that dissimilar from Ernie in the original series, good-natured and always willing to help people, occasionally acting the father figure to the Rangers. At the end of "Spirited Beginnings", however, we get the first hint that he might be more than he seems. "Memories" gives us even more fuel to that fire as we see the Rangers through Zack's eyes and, although it's not shown, he tells them of his own teenage days.
Despite only a short appearance in "Kruger Syndrome" (Freddy, not Doggie), it contained one of the biggest hints to who Zack really was when he compared the sluggish way one of the Rangers was moving to a mastodon in his thoughts.
"Glory Unseen" was the turning point in Zack's relationship with the new team when he revealed his own fighting ability against Dark Ranger (albeit not his status as a Ranger) and -to them- learned about their identies (In actuallity, he had known almost from the beginning.) along with being taken to the Literati's Command Center. By the end of the story, Zack's knowledge of them had been accepted and he agreed to keep their secret.
"The Conversation" blows it all wide up, utterly revealing what had only been alluded to and worked around until that point, blatantly telling the reader, if not the Rangers, who 'Z' really was through a phone call between Zack and a married Jason and Trini. We also get a glimpse into the past as Zack explains how he met his future employees in the days before Highway 2 opened.
"Fun with Holographic Recordings" only features Zack for the first scene, but it touches on two points that will be expanded on throughout the series; 1. a growing dissatisfaction with their deceased mentor from the original Power Rangers as they grow up and see the old days in new ways. 2. Zack's desire to be out there, with the new team, fighting the good fight again.
"Act One, Scene One" again doesn't feature Zack prominently, but you can see him joining the Rangers after their battle for a victory celebration.
"Road Rage" show a different side of Zack that the Literati Rangers have rarely seen, the side that's still a Power Ranger at heart, when he takes charge of a situation involving the latest monster attacks.
As the series continues, Zack will move closer to center stage, culminating in a life-shattering change for the former Power Ranger...

Cool. I think it's about time Zack was given a second chance at Rangerhood.

In the story presently being written - It probably WON'T appear. In the series as a whole - Like all the Spirit Armors, it first appeared and was described in "Glory Unseen" part two, 'Armor Holding'.('Armored form' being the basic Literati Shield, plus the standard arm and leg guards of all the Spirit Armors)
