Has anyone else noticed that Anime and Manga have a rather... interesting tradition?

Everyone trains for the year between Raditz and Vegita, then Goku trains again on the trip from Earth to Namek...

Ten year training trip.
Yu Yu:
Yusuke spends a year or so training to use his demonic energies...
