"The statistics on death are in, and they're pretty convincing. One out of every one people die.." = And one out of every ten actually rest in peace... Many members of my family have seen ghosts at one point or another.

And one out of every ten actually rest in peace... Many members of my family have seen ghosts at one point or another. = Reminds me of a superhero character I came up with once:
I used my own name since I didn't want the focus to be on the character's real life, but his other life, the reason "The Finisher" is in quotes is because he doesn't really HAVE a superhero name, he goes by a lot of different things at different times.

Quote:"The Finisher": Name: Magnus, John T. and others.
Bio: Though many people are born simply to live, there are certain souls that are placed on this Earth for a reason. If they die before that reason is fulfilled, they are trapped, unable to move beyond this world, but not fully a part of it. And in the rarest of times, a soul is born, or even in some cases reborn with a power beyond understanding. The power to host these trapped souls and aid them in achieving their reason for being.
What gives a soul that power is unknown in fact, but is sometimes thought to be when the soul is filled with so much purpose and determination in and of itself that nothing else matters. The soul will push its body to the brink of death if need be, but won't let it die because it is filled with such purpose.
For J.T. Magnus, his became that soul when he accepted his own mortality, the fact that he was a normal teenager with all the break-ups and more that went with that fact.
Now he's stuck taking on various lives in addition to his own to help the trapped souls finish what they started during their own lives, from traveling to Japan to carry an American-born ninja to the grave of his clansman to seeing that the descendents of a couple seperated in the 1930's by race fall in love and marry so that a private investigator can fade away. With his girlfriend and her family as the only ones that know of his secret and with her by his side, J.T. goes where he must to lay the ghosts he helps to rest... and maybe one day to do the same to his own... = He'd probably get killed by the specters before he could help them...

Not exactly. Those he HELPS just want to finally move on, but there is a villian in the story. I didn't really flesh him out as much as the anti-hero, but basically he wants to absorb the energies of all these spirits and conquer the world (read: stereotypical villian.) and while the anti-hero is helping those spirits that just want to move on he also has to fight, with the aid of the spirits he's helping, the spirits in the villian's employ that want to conquer the world.
(Example: The PI one, the PI's Spirit would be helping the Anti-hero by imparting his skills as a detective to help the anti-hero bring the two decendants together, but at the same time, the villian's lackies, both human and spirit, are trying to capture the PI's spirit and drain it's energy and kill the anti-hero so he can't help spirits move on and thus keep the villian from stealing their energy.)

The ghosts we've seen didn't want to just move on. They wanted to take us with them! = 1. You haven't been hanging around the right ghosts then, most of the ones I know are just practical jokers, I've never had any problems with them. 2. My story, my universal rules.

Were they family? = Yes and no, not related, but had been with the family for so long (he had come down from Delaware with them when part of my family moved down here.) that he was a part of it.
If you're having problems with dead family members, maybe you should sit a lit candle on their tombstone and when they show up ask what their problem is...
