"I had just broken up with my first girlfriend... so I was as far away from any memories of her as I could get - a whole country, east coast to west coast. I've always loved water, soaking, swimming, rain, so I was taking the opportunity to learn how to dive and finding I was very good at it... Well, except for the one time I didn't pay attention and went down with a leak in my air hose that I never noticed until I found I was running out of air way too early and was too far down to surface safely at the moment. I ducked into what I thought was an underwater cave... it was a mouth. Decades of sealife had covered it, but it was actually the last of the original Zords - Dragonzord, the most powerful. The other Zords had been destroyed, first by Lord Zedd then after they had been rebuilt by Master Vile, but since the Green Power Coin had been linked to a green candle that drained its energy when it was used, the Green Ranger and Dragonzord had been replaced by the White Ranger and Tigerzord by that time, and the Dragonzord stayed forgotten at the bottom of Angel Grove Bay...
I learned all this from Dragonzord itself - the first six Zords, those created by Zordon himself where autonamous, they had their own personalities, they could die... they were Zords, robots, but they were alive, and Dragonzord was the most alive of all of them... and like any living thing, he wanted to be free again. But to be free he needed access to the Power Grid - you may not know this, but the Power Grid is what gives a Ranger, ANY Ranger their power. Morphers might give it form and people might build the Zords, but without the Grid, there are no Rangers. - and for that, he needed a Ranger. The original Command Center used by the early Rangers had been destroyed by Divatox, so to find if the Green Power Coin remained somewhere in the ruins would take years... And I had few people have; an over-abundance of life energy. I heal faster and live longer because of it. Originally the Power Coins, Zeo Crystals, etc. were the access method to the Power Grid, the Morphers just activators, but over the years technology advanced to the point where the Morphers WERE the access - except in some cases of older Morphers that weren't used until more recent times like the Ninja Morphers or Dinomorphers, but that's beside the point. - but without a Morpher, although the Power Grid can sometimes be accessed, it's more likely that the sudden surge of enery would kill the person. My own amount of energy meant that I had a 'fairly acceptable survival percentage', techno-babble for I had the least chance of exploding by accessing the Grid without a Morpher or Power Coin.
So Dragonzord guided me to the Grid, metaphysically speaking, since it's not a physical object, but it was amazing... It was like this... undiscribable energy, this power to change the world. It glowed in all sorts of colors, red, blue, yellow, pink, green, black, white, gold, silver, every color in the spectrum... I wasn't able to keep from 'reaching out' to it. When I came in actual contact with it, it was like everything exploded around me, I could feel the raw Power coursing through me, becoming a part of me and me of it, then everything went black
When I came to, I was in Dragonzord once more, but with a difference: I wore a uniform much like that of the original Green Ranger, but in black where it was green on him. Dragonzord had his Ranger; me. I was only going to be a conduit for him to absorb enough power himself, but the Power chose to take me as well.
We later decided that it was because I was wanting something to fill the void that had been left in my life, a desire to again be part of something bigger that called out to the Power.
And since then, I've never regretted it."
