Minor additional note - the property (note, not necessarily the building, but the property) is parcel 11-228-01-012 at the county tax office.

Two-part question, response needed as soon as possible -
1. When I set up the appointment to look around the building, do you want to be there? 2. If so, what days and times would you be able?

1] Yup, wanna be there.
2] Hm... probably any time as long as we're out of there by 2 pm on Wed-Fri. I can't trust mom to not be off on Mondays or Tuesdays anymore.

I'm not sure yet, but I'm looking into it. There's a sign on the outside of the building with the realtor on it, might call them to find out how much the lease (I believe is what it is) is and see if I can get a look at the inside of the building, see better what's there and what shape it's in. Part of it depends on how intact the computer system is. If enough's left, hard- and software, we might be able to use the old Movie Gallery inventory system at first, which would cut cost. Otherwise, we'd need the equipment and programs for that. It'd take more effort on our part, but Hobby Lobby doesn't do an inventory thing like MG did. They just punch in the numbers of the department and then the price of an item. Say someone was buying some yarn for $1.89. Cashier would put in the number for the department (Say, 3 for needlework) and then 1.89 for the price. We'd just have to keep a closer eye on our stock levels. Just a cost saver if we can't keep the old hard and software. As far as that goes, I think I could probably manage free labor out of my brother and cousin, maybe even my dad and my uncle if we're lucky. We should probably meet up sometime in person to discuss this stuff. I can stay up to stupid hours if you wanna come over today and deal with it. If you can put up with my knitting, anyway. Scratch that, mom just took dad to the ER. No telling how today's gonna go now. /low whistle/ That's... both a lot more than I thought and a lot less than I expected.

Okay, I'll try to set up the look-over on a Wed-Thurs or Friday and let you know. The guy I needed to talk to was unavailable yesterday (Wednesday), so I'm going to try again later today.
That's good to know. (Wouldn't be the first time I've used a jerry-rigged inventory tracking system.)
Depending on the shelves, that may or may not work. If they can be easily broken down and moved around, then it shouldn't be a problem; but if they're too complex we might need an expert. Plus, there's the carpet to deal with, depending on whether or not the shelves are sitting on the carpet (in which case moving them would just leave indents in the carpet) or the carpet just comes up to the shelves (in which case we'd have to have the store re-carpeted).
*Frowns* Unfortunately... That trouble between Meals on Wheels and I that I mentioned? Part of it is that - without talking to me about it or giving me any warning - they transferred me from my three-day-a-week/seventy-mile-a-day route at the north end of the county and stuck me with a four-day/20-mile-a-day routh over in Dawnville, meaning I'm now having to work Thursdays. Including today.
I'd either need to drop Mother off first and then come over there, which would make it about eleven or twelve; or we could pick you up after we finish the route and bring you up here, which would be around ten with the added bonus of being near the building so we can take a look around.
ER? That sucks, even for them. Let me know if/when you'll be available.
Yeah, part of the problem is they charge more for commercial utilities than for residential utilities. I'm still waiting on some information regarding the lease on the building itself, how much remodeling/mainenance would cost, how much distributors charge, etc., but as it stands right now...
STARTUP $1500 - Power Deposit $10 - North GA EMC Membership fee $25 - Power Connection fee $60 - Water connection fee (Dalton Utilities) $25 - Phone Connection Fee (Optilink, two lines, no internet) $70 - Varnell Business Administrative Fee $45 - Business License for two co-owners and one employee ------------ Total: $1735
First Year Utilities $750/month - Power $20/Month - Water $70/Month - two line Phone service --------------- $840 x12 ---------------- Total: $10,080
So that gives us almost Twelve Thousand Dollars just for start-up and first year's utilites, again that's not counting the actual cost of leasing the building, remodeling the inside, setting up inventory control, acquiring stock, advertising our existance, etc. or saying that we want internet at the store (Which we probably will, but I was just getting rough estimates today).

That's a lot of money. Le sigh. And doesn't factor in the cost of a debit/credit card system as well. And if I remember rightly, it looked like they were sitting on the carpet, but I do think they were also screwed down at the corners. Yeah, it does suck pretty much. But it's not serious from the way mom was acting so maybe tomorrow will be okay. I'll let you know.

Okay.
Yeah, Mother was saying something when I talked to her about it about getting a 'Business Loan' from a bank. I'll try to get more details on that.

Dad's alright, they sent him home with pain meds. We can probably talk tomorrow if you don't mind dealing with me half asleep and bitching about my knitting.

Unfortunately, I'm gonna have to do laundry and run a few errands today.
Called the Realty company... was not impressed with their attitude (They broke Rule Zero, 'Never try and talk down to me'.), going to try contacting the property owners directly instead, but it's looking, at the moment, like a thirty-eight thousand dollar a year lease, so that brings us up to Fifty Thou for the first year.

Yeah. They assumed that just because I sound young over the phone I had no idea what I was talking about. Big mistake.
That's the WHOLE first year, remember.

Sorry, didn't see the message earlier... My bad.
Question, though - Friday I have to be in town, so I'm planning on going down to the Realty offices in person, care to come with?
(Oh, and bit of news - Varnell is planning to form a local business association with the Chamber of Commerce, they're planning on having a meeting about it later this month and I'm planning to attend.)

That's a no today and no tomorrow.
*Rolls his eyes*
Blame the GENIUSES that I will thank God when Highway 2 opens and I can quit working for who waited until today, after I was already home and everything to call and let me know that 'oh, by the way, because we're going to be short-handed for a while we want you to run two routes until further notice despite the fact that you already had a route and we shifted you to a shorter one so now you have to run two short routes instead of one long one and we want you to start doing so tomorrow.'
It's looking like Highway 2 won't just be to provide a gathering place for local geeks or (eventually) put money in our pockets, it also seems to be shaping up to be the last, best hope to keep me from snapping, going completely insane and taking this rathole town with me...
Home by two on Friday? Okay, we can do that. If things start running too late we can always detour and run you home real quick. You'll need to be up and ready to go by eight (8AM), is all.
