Deep.
~~~~~~~ (I do not expect the following to be a part of this at all, but...)
The next evening, before the Silver Guardians could take their post at the hill, he had arrived. Draped in a hooded blue cloak his glowing amber eyes stared at the graves of the rangers from under his white mask for a long moment before he set to his task. His nightmares led him here; told him off the loss, chilled him to the bone. After talking with his ward and beloved, he chose a wreath of heliotrope (connection), straw (unity) and marigold (pain and grief) to place over the headstones of the Yellow and Blue Rangers.
After placing the first wreath over the Yellow Ranger's headstone, he did likewise for the Blue. He then promptly kick it as hard has he could without injuring himself, and sat next to it.
"I told you," he chided. "I told you, if she's anything like mine, you're the only thing keeping her alive. I told you to live for her no matter what. But you had to play hero like the macho idiot you are."
He arose, pulling out a notebook and flipping to a page enscribed with the spell that brought him there. "I hope she beats the shit out of you when you're reunited in the Aether." He puts a gloved hand over the inscription and twists, causing a bright light to engulf him. "I hope I don't make the same mistake." With that last comment, he and the light vanished.
No one would ever know of the last night that Daniel Collins, the Blue Demon ranger's wizardly self from another dimension, visited his doppelganger's resting place.
Jon, morphed and leading a group of Hardshells in destroying the city looked down as a rose flew through the air and stuck into the ground at his feet. With a groan, the Dark Ranger looked up...
"Oh, no..."
J.T. was standing on a rooftop. That, in itself, wasn't abnormal. The fact that he was wearing a cape and tophat on over his Ranger uniform and holding another rose in his hand, however, was.
"Trying to destroy the scenery of Scenic again, Dark Ranger? Don't you know by now that whatever you do, we'll always rise up to knock you down again?"
"Did someone let you watch Sailer Moon again, Power-Geek?"
A voice from behind Jon caused him to turn and face the second strangest sight of the day, "Z will pay for it, trust me..."
"What... the... hell...?"
Jon folded his arms and cocked his head as all the Hardshells stopped what they were doing and stared, one scratched its head quizzically.
"Why are you all wearing skirts? Daniel? Justin?"
Daniel growled, the skirt added to his uniform ruining the effect, "We lost a bet to Tuxedo Moron up there."
"Come on, you guys," J.T. shouted, "Do it right!"
Daniel groaned, as soon as this was over and he could lose the skirt, J.T. would lose his life, "I am... I am Sailor Mercury!"
Justin was thinking the same thing, "I am Sailor Mars..."
Yolanda wasn't wanting to kill J.T., but she wasn't going to stop the others, either, "I am Sailor Venus..."
Jessica, strangely enough was actually enjoying it, if only because it was bothering everyone else, so when she spoke it was with more enthusiam, "I am Sailor Jupiter!"
Amanda was still hiding in the shadows, "I'm not gonna say it!"
"You gotta say it!"
"NO!"
"Say it or I sing it!"
"HELL NO!" Amanda shouted back, unseen in the darkness.
J.T. took a deep breath and began singing, "Fighting evil by moonlight, Winning love by daylight, Never running from a real fight, She is the one named -"
"ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT! GODDESS, I'LL SAY IT!" Amanda stepped out of the shadows and Jon could tell she was glaring at him through the visor, "Laugh and die, Purple Boy...."
She spoke with great reluctance, "I am Sailor Moon... the champion of justice. ...In the name of the moon, I will right wrong and triumph over evil... and that means you..."
Amanda even did the pose, but made sure to point her finger at J.T. instead of Jon.
Jon just shook his head, "Alright, monsters, pack it up! We're outta here!"
"No fight?" Amanda asked, confused.
"Are you kidding? With my luck, Greenie over there is gonna -"
"Jupiter Thunder CRASH!" Jessica shouted, letting loose with a bolt from her Phoenix Bow that struck Jon right in the rear.
"YOW! THAT! I'm OUTTA here!" In a flash of purple light, Jon was gone.
Amanda looked at Jessica, "I hate you."
Then at J.T., "I hate you."
Then stomped her foot, "I hate you BOTH!"
As one, the two answered, "We know, Serena."
"HMPH!"
Amanda - don't know if your hair was in the meatballs or not, you had your helmet on (We were in our Ranger uniforms, just EVERYONE {Except 'Tuxedo J.T.'} had the skirt).
Daniel - I doubt it.
Personally, I thought the some of the lines (J.T.'s first one, for example.) were completely Sailor Moon-ish and that the reactions and comments were spot on for how we'd really react...
Yeah, but I think I would have just taken off when he started to sing. After all, I could run or just clobber Jon without the huge thing.
Think about it, Amanda...
Do it then and just get it over with or have J.T. annoying you for days with it?
Well.... here it is. The three most pianful pages of fanfic I've ever written. Justin... you got off easy, my friend.
I cried for ten minutes after I finished this, that's how pianful it was.
Don't be mad at me, folks. I've already experianced punishment for this one. But, when you're woken up by it in a nightmare form because you kept telling yourself you would never write it... well, you end up having to get it out of your mind.
With no further ado, I give you "Tragedy in Six Acts". ____________________________________________________
The world she was deposited back into was as close to Hell as she had ever seen. Fires raged around her, buildings were rubble, glass was powder. She had a sudden feeling of Hiroshima without the radiation.
“By Zeus…” she whispered in horror. Death was a sharp smell in her nose. “Please, by the Inochi no Madatama, no.” She ran, tripping over debris, and soon found those she had been looking for.
Their bodies were strewn around as though they were rag dolls. Uniforms, while not destroyed, were torn and bloody. Limbs were bent at unnatural angles. The sight was enough to make her fall to her knees in devastation, not noticing the shards of glass cutting into her legs.
“They can’t be… no!” She stood and ran to the nearest body, this one in red. She pulled off his helmet, only to find his eyes staring up at her, eternally unseeing. “Oh… Justin,” she whispered, her eyes filling with tears. She gently closed his eyes, and then brought her fist to her forehead, then to her lips. “The Halls of Mandos would be honored for one such as you,” she whispered before she kissed his forehead in blessing. “I’m sorry.”
A flash of white caught her sight, jerking her out of her stupor. “Z?” she whispered, focusing fully on the sight. It was disturbing enough she had to hold back from vomiting. It was the body of the White Ranger, who had just joined them no more than a week ago. He was clearly dead; she didn’t have to remove his helmet to discover that. He was impaled on a piece of rebar six inches in diameter. His white uniform was awash in his own blood, a puddle of which had formed at the base of the mound of concrete. “Gods, Zack…” she choked out. Composing herself, she gingerly walked over to him and hesitantly removed his helmet. His eyes were mercifully closed, but blood had run out of the corners of his mouth in twin rivulets. She wiped the sticky substance away with the tail of her shirt, and then repeated the same actions she had on the Red Ranger. “Be in peace, dear friend.”
A cough came from another body. “Jessica!” She scrambled to her feet and dashed to the side of the green-garbed one. “Jessica, can you hear me?” she asked as she pulled off her helmet.
“Johnnie?” A wave of sorrow filled her heart.
“No, honey. It’s just Amanda.”
“Where’s Johnnie?” she asked, blood bubbling up in her throat.
Amanda shook her head. “I don’t know.”
There was a long silence in which Amanda would have thought she had passed away as well, had it not been for the shallow breathing, which was causing blood to blow out of several large puncture wounds. “He’s dead, isn’t he?” Amanda hesitated, wondering if she should tell her the truth. The sound of her breathing and the blood that had started to run out the left corner of her mouth told her that Jessica didn’t have much longer, and she wondered if it would be better to soothe her with sweet lies. Suddenly, she found her hand seized by the Phoenix Ranger and squeezed as tightly as the poor girl could. “Damn it, Violette, answer me!”
Amanda sighed. “Probably,” she answered honestly, deciding that she wouldn’t want the lie. The soft wail that came from the Green Ranger tore at her heart. “I’m sorry, Jess. I really am.”
“Not Johnnie…” she cried, the tears from her eyes washing away the blood that had trailed down her temple. “What about Justin?”
“Dead. Looks like a broken neck. And don’t… don’t ask about Z. Its better you never know.”
“Stay with me,” Jessica asked, flicking an eye to Amanda and squeezing her hand again. “Please.”
Amanda nodded, placing her other hand on their joined ones, tears filling her eyes. “Of course.” Soon after that, the tears slowed and the labored breathing slowed and finally ceased. “Go with God, Jessica,” she whispered, bringing her trembling hand to her forehead. She blessed her, and then placed Jessica’s hand on her chest as she wiped away the blood with the other.
She then came to the body of the Dark Ranger. His helmet was already gone, and Amanda could see the large gash in his throat. It was deep enough to see his spine clearly. “Oh, Jonathan. Poor dear.” She closed his eyes and kissed his forehead. “Rest well, and know that I will have them know you died a hero.”
Resigned to the fact that she would likely find her best friend either dead or dying, she walked softly to the side of the Pink Ranger. The gash in her chest was enough to tell her that Yolanda was still alive, likely in extreme pain, and didn’t have much longer. She could clearly see the lung expand with each pained breath in a puddle of blood. Holding back the bile rising in her throat, she removed the helmet to discover the bloodied face of her first real friend. “Yo-yo-chan?” she asked. A single eye cracked open, the other too swollen.
“Hey, imooto-chan,” she whispered. “Is it as bad as it feels?”
Amanda grinned ruefully. “Well, your lung looks pretty good.” Yolanda chuckled.
“Yeah, I take care of em, don’t I? The others?”
“Dead. Jessica went just a second ago. Justin, Jon and Z were gone before I got here. J.T.’s probably dead too.”
“Daniel?”
Tears collected in Amanda’s throat. “I don’t know yet.” She heard Yolanda’s breathing become more ragged. “Do you need me to do anything for you?”
Yolanda coughed, more blood splattering her uniform. “Just… stay here with me. I’m sorry I… I’m doing this to you. I… I swore I’d never die before you.”
Amanda nodded, tears beginning to fall. “I will. The Halls of Mandos would be honored for one such as you.”
Yolanda shook her head feebly. “No, I don’t want to be with Námo. I want to be with Irmo.”
Amanda chuckled half-heartedly. “Of course. The Gardens of Lórien would be honored for one such as you.” Amanda performed the blessing as she had for the others. “I love you, oneechan.”
“I love you too, imooto-chan.” The two then sat in silence as Yolanda’s breathing finally gave out. Tears began to roll down Amanda’s face as she lowered her head.
“M… Mandi… chan?” Her head snapped up violently as she heard that voice.
“Amaterasu… Daniel!” She scrambled to her feet as she ran over to him. “Daniel!” She tripped on a piece of rebar and fell squarely on a large shard of glass. She could feel it slice into her thigh, but paid it no mind as she drug herself over to his side.
“Hey,” he whispered, bringing a hand up to brush a strand of hair out of her face.
“Hey yourself,” she whispered back, catching his hand in hers. His eyes flickered over her body, taking in the cuts on her arms, the scratches and tear trails on her face, and the gashes on her legs.
“You wanna know something?” he asked. Without giving her a chance to respond, he continued. “You’re a beautiful girl, you know that?”
Amanda felt the tears stream down her face as she answered, “Yeah. Yeah, I do know that.”
Daniel grinned painfully. “I finally managed to convince you, did I?”
“You finally succeeded, yeah.”
“I love you, you know that?” Amanda nodded.
“Ai shiteru, aino-chan. Im mellyë, illumë ar oialë.”
“Promise me something.” Amanda nodded fervently. “Don’t do it.” Rushing ahead of her, he added, “Please. I’m not worth it. You have to stay alive.” That was the final breaking point in the dam of Amanda’s tears.
“I can’t promise you that, you know that!” she sobbed hysterically. “What do I have in life if I don’t have you?! Daniel, you’re everything to me, you always have been! My heart is dying already, Dan! The last beat of your heart is the last beat of mine! If we had children, maybe I could last for them, but it would only be borrowed time! I won’t survive you; I’m not able to do it! I’m not made for life after heartbreak, I never was!”
“Please, Amanda! Promise me, even if it’s just a lie.” Amanda shook her head.
“I’ve never lied to you, and damned if I’m going to start now! I’ll stay alive long enough to see the six of you properly buried, but I can’t promise any longer than that.”
“Good enough,” Daniel agreed. He knew there was no point in arguing with her. She had made certain he understood long ago that his death would mean hers as well. Her heart was too fragile for it. “A… final kiss?”
Amanda nodded. Their kiss was furious, angry. A slap in the face of Death. They both tried to transmit the countless years they had just had stolen from each other in that final passionate embrace. They parted long enough for Daniel to speak his last words.
“I’ll… always… love you… Mandi-chan. See you… in the next… life.”
Amanda nodded. “Asgard will be honored to have you feast in its halls.” With that, Amanda breathed in Daniel’s final breath.
Eternities passed to Amanda, when in fact it was only a few seconds. “Daniel, no!” she wailed as she threw herself across his chest. She sobbed hopelessly, and with each tear, her soul slipped away, leaving her hollow body to walk the world alone. Until she saw them all buried, she would hold off on killing herself, but once they were properly laid to rest, she would get her bottle of sleeping pills… and sleep forever.
... Three things:
1. Asgard, eh? Cool. I hear they have really good food there.
2. In the last one, I thought you wrote that you took melatonin pills. But here it says sleeping pills.
3. If it's too painful for you, I understand, but, how did Daniel die?
Sleeping pills, for me, are melatonin pills. I keep a bottle by my bed. I usually take one half to a whole one a night.
As for COD, I figured massive internal injuries.
