So I called my ISP today, due to the whole sporatic internet outages thing I had going this weekend. After the usual intermitable wait, they tried to querry my modem to see where the problem is. Naturally my connection cut back out. The tech transfers me to another tech, more modem techie than network, I guess. I get a connection long enough for him to decide the modem's bad; and oh, he thinks I have a virus, or spyware, or both. Now, this wouldn't be the first time Norton's let me down, but I had my doubts. He suggested 66.35.255.32, which is a free online virus and spyware scan (usefull once I get a reliable connection, anyway), and set a house call for Saturday (I'm not taking a day off, I'm not that addicted). I tried a few tricks in the meantime, then started checking my back-ups (I could not see this ending well, and wanted to make sure nothing irreplacable wasn't on DVD). I finally got a signal at 11:30, ran that scan and found NOTHING.
Not trusting Norton AV anymore (and it's a resource hog) I switched to the security suite my ISP provides, which is just as well, since the firewall I *was* using kept blocking my LAN.
One hour plus, and I still have access. If this keeps, I'll have to call and cancel the call. I hate Mondays.
