Query...
Does anyone know if there's a trope for... I'm not sure what to call it, 'Becoming The Lie' or something?
I.E.; Marvel comics where the Masters of Evil at one point pretended to be the heroic Thunderbolts only for most of them to end up discovering that they actually liked being the heroes and turn against the rest of the team.
The TV series "Viper" where when Joe Aster gets his memories of Micheal Payton back, despite a longer history as Payton he ends up staying Aster (well, mostly... He does, in his own words, 'steal' a classified government vehicle to take his partner/new girlfriend on a skiing trip in the finale, but Aster had stolen the first Viper to begin with to keep the project from being shut down, so while the show implies that it's the Payton part of him it could just as easily be the Aster part)
Video games "Star Wars: Force Unleashed", where when the Apprentice discovers that it was all a lie he ends up (especially if you choose the Light Side ending) choosing to become a Jedi for real.
And of course the famous "Knights of the Old Republic" where if you stay on the Light Side path, your character chooses to remain a Jedi despite it being a lie created by the Council.
the show "Remington Steele" has the title character start out as a conman pretending to be a man who doesn't exist solely to reap the benefits, but by the end of the series even the woman who created the identity admits that he is Remington Steele.
And I don't know if he does, but Captain Jack Harkness might count for that matter since it's supposed to be a stolen identity, but John Hart uses it for him despite the fact that as his former Time Agency partner he could probably know Jack's real name...

You probably want "Becoming the Mask."
As for the thing re: Spike and Jack, I dunno, he probably just went with it out of convenience. Also I kinda doubt that "John Hart" is his real name as well, so there's a chance that all Time Agents use fake names anyway.

Exactly what I was looking for, right down to some of the examples.
And since it's never specifically mentioned on screen, there's a chance that Hart doesn't even realize that Jack's lost two years of his memory...

It's occurred to me recently that Happosai is actually a better person than Genma and Soun...
Okay, sure, he's an unrepentant pervert, but he's an honest one - he doesn't try to hide that fact, he presents himself as he is and - except for the occasional demon summoning or such in attempts to get his hands on more 'pretties' - really doesn't cause that much major trouble.
Soun's about middle ground - he doesn't actively cause trouble, but he doesn't do anything to stop it, either. Of the three 'Masters' of the Anything-Goes School, he's probably the one who comes closest to actually being honorable.
Genma, though, is scum. He preaches about honor while being dishonorable - lies, cheats, steals, arranged at least three marriages for his son (Well, one of those was for a daughter, which unfortunately for him Ranma qualifies as at times) knowing that not all of them could be fulfilled, abandoned Ukyo on the roadside, signed an agreement that Ranma would kill himself if he didn't become 'a man among men' (And here, after learning about it, Nabiki becomes a bit of scum as well since she would know that at six years of age, Ranma couldn't sign/handprint a document and it be considered legally binding)...
Not to mention that half the mess started because the NIMROD decided to go training in China when he didn't read or speak Chinese!

Lieber: Cap: Hopes more agrees with Lieber, Lieber remarks that we all need our heroes and he remembers reading about Cap in his younger days.
Daredevil: Sometimes the Law needs help from outside the law. Lieber replies that the super heroes have made true believers out of all.
Deadpool: Asks if he's the only one freaking out because he (as a PC) and a second Deadpool (an NPC ally on the level) are there and asks where the continuity person is. Lieber says that there are a lot of really good medications these days for people like Wade.
Gambit: Simply says nothing's wrong with thinking things over, which Lieber calls a timely suggestion.
Green Goblin: Goblin is... less than enthused. In Lieber's day, he wouldn't have been considered a 'hero'.
Hulk: "Sound good to Hulk." "Glad to hear that, I'm guessing I wouldn't like you when you're angry."
Torch: Lieber jokes about if he only had his own action figure like they had, that'd be something. (J.T.'s note; ...A Stan Lee action figure... hm... I'd buy it.)
Iceman: The X-Men can't afford to register their true identites with- and Lieber cuts him off, 'Say no more, Mr. Drake. I know more about the X-Men than you think.'
Sue: Suggests he think of all the things the FF have done for NY over the years. Lieber admits that many have benefitted from their success and are grateful.
Iron Fist: Lieber won't get on a soapbox or anything, but he'll pull a few strings if he can.
Iron Man: Registration would only make it easier for the bad guys and there's no prize for second place.
Jean: Similar to Iceman's, except of course the name and being 'Very Familiar with the X-Men's uncanny exploits' rather than just knowing more about them than one'd think.
Cage: "Word." "A man of few words, eh? I like that!"
Reed: Same as Sue.
Ms. Marvel: The press may be pushing them to act, but- Lieber's not in it for the headlines, he just wants to do his job.
Fury: Nanite Fury doesn't actually speak, which is odd, but the game's subtitles have him saying that it's good to hear someone making sense for a change. Lieber shrugs it off saying that he's always been a friend to superheroes.
Penance: "I suppose that would be good." "Your enthusiasm is positively contagious, you know that?"
Songbird: Asks if things in Washington aren't usually on hold, causing Lieber to admit that it could be said, but some of them try to work a bit faster than others.
Spidey: Underneath the masks, the heroes are just like everyone else. Lieber disagrees, claiming he'd call them amazing or spectacular.
Storm: Standard X-change (Sorry, couldn't resist the pun), Lieber tells 'Ororo' not to worry, he and the X-Men go way back. (J.T.'s note; Is Remy the only one who doesn't have that conversation? I hope Logan says something different...)
Thing: Lieber would hate to disappoint a former member of the Yancy Street Gang.
Thor: Thor says something in... Thor-speak... and Lieber comments that it's a fancy way to say 'You wash my back and I'll wash yours'.
Venom: Venom says that putting the SRA on hold would beat his tearing Lieber's face off... Lieber askes if he kisses his mother with that mouth.
Wolverine: Nope, it's just Remy who gets his own conversation. Lieber calls him 'Canucklehead' and says that not everyone hates and fears mutants.
Hill: Cap: Daredevil: Deadpool: Gambit: Green Goblin: Hulk: Torch: Iceman: Sue: Something about Reed... Iron Fist: Iron Man: Jean: Cage: Reed: Ms. Marvel: Fury: Penance: Songbird: Generic 'Hero' remarks Spidey: JJ's gonna be very happy with him rebelling. Storm: Thing: Thor: Venom: Wolverine:
Fury: Cap: Daredevil: Deadpool: Gambit: Green Goblin: Hulk: Torch: Iceman: Sue: Iron Fist: Iron Man: Jean: Cage: Reed: Ms. Marvel:
Fury: Simple conversation involving Fury being 'better than ever, more than before as part of the Fold', Nick asking if that's a metal band, Fury saying that it's the best thing to ever happen to this God-forsaken Human race and when they're part of the Fold they'll see how wrong they were, Nick challenging him to come there and say that and Fury saying they will.
Penance: Songbird: Spidey: Something about Aunt May, I think... Storm: Thing: Thor: Venom: Wolverine:

There's only one way to kill a vampire elf - drive a candy cane through its heart!
Um... what? I'm sorry, we're going to have to take a break while I beat some sense into my husband... or at least beat him unconscious...

Okay... I got a kill on an opponent... by my magma-frag sticking to a teammate who went into a whirlwind, so I remote detonated it when they were next to the enemy... weird...
Not exactly normal battle strategy, Johnnie...
'Strategy'? Love, that was pure dumb luck - emphasis on the dumb... I couldn't do that again if I were trying, I think... at least it worked.
At least you can't frag your teammates.
There's an old saying about small favors that comes to mind with that one...

Something just occurred to me... How much of a school of martial arts would one have to learn to be considered a student of it? Because I'm not sure Ranma really classifies as a student of the 'Anything Goes' school; - Katchu Tenshin Ameguriken - Jokuketsu in origin, even if he learned it primarily on his own.
- Neko-Ken - Found by Genma in a manual of flawed training techniques, implication is that it's not considered part of any school because it's so flawed.
- Moko Takabisha - based on the Shi Shi Hokudan with modifications because of the personality differences between Ranma and Ryoga.
- Hiryu Shoten Ha - Jokuketsu in origin, if my memory is certain.
- Umiseiken - Created by Genma to steal things with.
One unknown, three that can trace their origins back to the Chinese Amazons, and only one that actually seems to be part of Anything Goes itself. See what I mean? It'd be like using a Sharinkaze deflection, a rising forearm A-block, a hip throw, the Stone Cold Stunner and the Six-Inch Punch and then trying to claim that you're a student of Jeet Kun Do despite using mainly Akido techniques.

Well, there when my resolution to swear less... lasted until the PS3 froze up in the middle of a game, causing me to have to do a super-hard-reset (Pulling the plug on it, in other words) and when I finally get back in the game I end up having to deal with some of my least favorite types of people; the 'teammates' who are a bigger help for the other side and the enemies who know what they're doing... with the worst vehicle in the game... and of course the programmers think that Doom-inspired 'health tracking' by making the screen darken and sounds muffled to represent the effects of injuries is something that people actually enjoy dealing with....
Seriously, does ANYBODY know ANYONE who actually likes the screen becoming harder to see when they get low on health?

I'm not usually one for sports, especially basketball, but the Atlanta Hawks are playing the Chicago Bulls this Saturday...
Part of me is actually wondering who'll win...
Call me a traitor-to-my-state if you will (and I've known some people who would, too....), but personally, my money's on Chicago.

Cloud, Barret, Tifa, Aeris, Red XIII, Cait Sith, Cid, Vincent, Yuffie...
Aeris is the only party member whose name begins with a vowel and is the only party member to suffer permanent death... this is the kind of thing that sets geek conspiracy theorists off...

Well, by this time next week, Amanda's likely to have killed me...
I wrote a "Hetalia" drabble featuring America and England (no 'ships). I won't go into any detail since I don't plan on posting it until the day the story's based on...
